AI CHATBOTS DIRECT PREGNANT USERS TO ANTI-ABORTION SITES

The study analyzed 270 responses to queries about unplanned pregnancies. Anti-abortion group Profemina appeared in 17 percent of answers across the four chatbots tested. In Germany, the investigation found additional problems. Chatbots directed users to Caritas for mandatory pre-abortion counseling despite the organization not issuing legally required certificates for such consultations. The findings raise concerns about AI systems providing health guidance without transparency about source bias or legitimacy. Users seeking neutral pregnancy information cannot easily identify when chatbots are linking to advocacy organizations rather than medical providers. The investigation did not specify whether the chatbots were explicitly programmed to favor certain resources or if the results reflected gaps in their training data and content moderation systems.
