AlphaFold, Google's AI system trained to predict protein structures, is helping scientists make gene-editing tools safer by identifying which parts of editing proteins cause mistakes. The team used the AI to analyze gene-editing proteins and locate the specific structural features responsible for off-target edits—errors that can occur when the protein cuts DNA at unintended locations. Once identified, researchers can redesign these problem areas. This application addresses a key limitation in gene editing therapies.
