MON, APR 20, 2026Apple has appointed Johny Srouji as chief hardware officer effective immediately, taking over from John Ternus, who will become CEO in September as Tim Cook transitions to chairman.
Srouji's promotion marks a significant leadership shift at Apple's executive level. He assumes the role vacated by Ternus, whose ascension to CEO follows Cook's planned transition to the board's chairmanship.
The move comes after months of speculation about Srouji's future at the company. Last December, he publicly reassured his team that he was not "leaving anytime soon" following reports he was evaluating his options.
As chief hardware officer, Srouji will oversee Apple's hardware engineering division—a critical function given the company's reliance on innovative product design and manufacturing. His appointment represents continuity in Apple's hardware strategy during the broader leadership transition.
Ternus, who led Apple's hardware engineering efforts, will assume the CEO role in September. Cook, who has served as CEO since 2011, will shift focus to his new chairman responsibilities.
Srouji has been a key figure in Apple's technical infrastructure, particularly in areas involving chip development and hardware integration. His experience positions him well to manage the company's hardware roadmap during a period of executive transition.
The announcement was made Monday through official Apple channels, with the appointment taking effect immediately.
