THU, APR 23, 2026Microsoft has rolled out agentic features for Copilot across Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, now generally available and automatically enabled for 365 Copilot and 365 Premium subscribers.
Microsoft's agentic Copilot capabilities are now live across its core Office applications. The features activate by default for users with 365 Copilot or 365 Premium subscriptions, eliminating the need for manual enablement.
The agentic functionality extends to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint on both desktop and mobile devices. These capabilities allow Copilot to take autonomous actions within documents and spreadsheets, moving beyond traditional chat-based assistance.
Agentic AI systems can perform multi-step tasks with minimal user intervention. In the Office context, this means Copilot can execute formatting changes, data analysis, and content generation across slides and documents without requiring confirmation at each step.
The general availability marks the transition from preview or limited-access status to full rollout. Microsoft's decision to enable these features by default signals confidence in their stability and usability, though it also means organizations with 365 Copilot licenses will need to manage the functionality through their administrative settings if they choose to restrict it.
This release aligns with Microsoft's broader push to integrate AI agents throughout its productivity suite. The company has been gradually expanding Copilot's capabilities from basic text generation to more complex, autonomous operations that can handle workflow automation.
Users can access these features on both desktop and mobile versions of Office applications, broadening the range of devices where agentic assistance is available.
For organizations evaluating Microsoft 365 Copilot, the general availability of agentic features represents a maturation of the offering. Enterprises deploying these tools can now rely on consistent functionality across Word, Excel, and PowerPoint rather than waiting for staged rollouts.
