Uber and autonomous vehicle company Nuro are launching a premium robotaxi service in San Francisco, with Uber employees now able to hail Lucid-branded autonomous vehicles through the app.
The partnership marks an expansion of Uber's robotaxi offerings in the city. Employees can request the Lucid robotaxi service as part of the testing phase, which will help both companies gather data on passenger experiences and operational logistics.
Uber has been gradually rolling out autonomous vehicle services in San Francisco through existing partnerships. The addition of Lucid vehicles provides another option for the company to test different autonomous platforms and vehicle types.
Nuro, known for autonomous delivery vehicles, enters the robotaxi market through this collaboration. The testing phase will inform how the service scales and whether it expands beyond employee access.
