WAYMO AND UBER AUTONOMOUS DRIVING PARTNERSHIP FACING SPLIT

The autonomous vehicle company and rideshare giant have collaborated on self-driving technology since 2016. Waymo has provided driverless vehicle services through the Uber app in select markets, primarily San Francisco. No official reason for the potential breakup has been disclosed. Both companies have expanded their autonomous capabilities independently in recent years. Uber launched its own robotaxi service, Uber Eats autonomous delivery, and acquired self-driving truck company Aurora. Waymo separately operates its robotaxi service, Waymo One, in Phoenix and San Francisco with plans for additional cities. The May 2028 expiration gives both parties nearly four years to negotiate renewal or finalize a separation. A split would mark a significant shift in the autonomous vehicle industry, where partnerships have been crucial for scaling operations and sharing infrastructure costs. Neither company has commented on breakup discussions.
