NEXSTROM EYES 2D SEMICONDUCTORS FOR MASS PRODUCTION

Nexstrom is developing equipment designed to integrate 2D semiconductor materials into existing chip fabrication processes. The startup's technology targets the production bottleneck that has prevented widespread adoption of 2D materials in commercial manufacturing. 2D semiconductors—materials just a few atoms thick—offer potential advantages in transistor performance and power efficiency compared to traditional silicon-based chips. However, scaling production has remained a significant challenge for the industry. The funding will support Nexstrom's efforts to create tools compatible with standard fab environments, potentially allowing manufacturers to incorporate 2D materials without major infrastructure overhauls. Several chipmakers and research institutions have explored 2D materials, including graphene and transition metal dichalcogenides, but commercial production remains limited.
